20 Hours ECE
Every child in NZ aged three, four or five years old is entitled to 20 free early childhood education hours (20 Hours ECE). Pukeko Preschool offers 20 ECE for all 3, 4 and 5 year-olds.
Work and Income NZ
There are several rules to the childcare subsidy entitlements through Work and Income New Zealand (WINZ).
- Every child is entitled to nine hours of WINZ subsidy for childcare, if you aren’t already using 20 Free ECE Hours.
- The subsidy rate and number of hours of subsidised care depend on your family’s situation and income.
- WINZ subsidy is calculated per hour - this is based on the partner in the family who works the fewest hours.
- You can also add travel time to and from the Preschool in the morning and afternoon as part of your claimed hours (to get from Preschool to work and back).
The manager and administrators at Pukeko Preschool are happy to explain the 20 Hours ECE and WINZ funding schemes to you – just ask!
